Kansas City, KS – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has named Simon Fraser University men's soccer head coach
Alan Koch the Far West Region Coach of the Year for 2012.
It is the second consecutive year he has received the honour and his second Coach of the Year award this season, after winning the title for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
The award comes after a season in which Koch's team made history, becoming the first Canadian school to reach the NCAA Final Four after the Clan won their third consecutive GNAC Championship.
Koch led the Clan to a 19-2-1 record in 2012, including victories over Cal State Stanislaus, Grand Canyon and the University of the Incarnate Word in the NCAA tournament.
In the three seasons since the Clan joined the GNAC and the NCAA, Koch has led his teams to a combined record of 56-4-2.
In 2012, Koch's Clan led the conference in goals, assists, points, corners, goals against average, shut outs and they allowed the fewest number of goals.
Three of his players (Mike Winter,
Carlo Basso and
Helge Neumann) were also recently named All-Americans by the NSCAA.
