Spokane, WA – Simon Fraser University forward Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe (Vernon, BC) has been named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference first team of all-stars while Kristina Collins (Port Coquitlam, BC) received honourable mention.

“Nayo is one of the best athletes in division II basketball,” said head coach Bruce Langford.  “She is an outstanding rebounder and our leading scorer.  She has the ability to dominate games.”

Nayo broke her own GNAC record during the 2011-12 regular season, recording 22 double-doubles.

She led the GNAC in both scoring and rebounding with an average of 18.5 points per game and 13.3 rebounds.

It is the second time in as many seasons in the GNAC that Nayo has been named to the first team.

“It's a really big honour and being unanimously voted to be on the team from the other coaches feels great,” said Raincock-Ekunwe.  “I think the team has improved a lot.  Our shooting is a lot better, our teamwork is better, we play together, and a lot of people have stepped up this year where as last year two or three players scored most of the baskets.  Everyone came to play this year.”

Collins received honourable mention in the coaches poll after a season in which she was the Clan's second highest scorer and a constant threat from beyond the arc.

She also led the team in assists with 111 and had the highest free throw shooting percentage on the team at 0.796.

“In my mind Kristina is more than an honourable mention, she certainly is to our team.  She is an integral part of our offence and much of what she does goes unnoticed.  She led the league in threes and hit many of them at key times.  Kristina continues to grow and develop her game,” finished Langford.

The Clan will hit the road to Lacey, WA on Wednesday as they prepare for the first game of the 2012 GNAC Tournament against Seattle Pacific on Thursday night.
