Kansas City, KS - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has announced the 2013 NSCAA/Continental Tire All-West Region team and three Simon Fraser University men's soccer players have earned spots, all on the first team.
Chris Bargholz (Fuessen, Germany),
Magnus Kristensen (Stavenger, Norway) and
Alex Rowley (Maple Ridge, BC) made the squad.
Bargholz and Kristensen were named All-Americans in the Daktronics voting last week, which is chosen by the NCAA's sports information director's while all three players made the Daktronics regional team.
The trio led the Clan to the "Final Four" in the NCAA Championship tournament that saw Simon Fraser bow out to the Carson Newman Eagles with a 3-2 loss in the semi-finals in Evans, GA
last Thursday after SFU clinched their second straight NCAA West Region Championship and fourth consecutive Great Northwest Athletic Conference crown during the 2013 season.
In 2013, Bargholz was named the player of the year in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in a season that saw the junior score four goals and record seven assists in 17 games played.
Kristensen was named the freshman of the year in the GNAC and first team all-conference, starting all 23 games he played in for the Clan while recording three goals and an assist while helping the Clan defence all 0.87 goals per game, the third lowest total in the conference.
Rowley appeared in 22 games for the Clan in 2013, starting 20 of them and recording two goals and seven assists while earning a spot on the first team of conference all-stars and was named the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year.
