Portland, OR – Simon Fraser University women's basketball player Erin Chambers (Mission, BC) earned honourable mention in the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association All-American voting on Tuesday.

Chambers had her best season to date in 2013-14, being named both a Great Northwest Athletic Conference and NCAA West Region All-Star prior to this.

The junior led the GNAC in scoring, averaging 23.1 points per game during the 2013-14 season, the only player in the conference to average more than 20 points per game this year.

Those numbers also put her in sixth in NCAA Division II in scoring this season, the highest rank by a Clan woman in that category since SFU joined the NCAA.

"I really had a new role this year, being looked at to be a leader on the team and a scorer," said Chambers. "I was expected to step up and I think I was comfortable enough in that role which boosted my performance."

Chambers led her team to their second consecutive GNAC second-place finish, and helped the Clan advance past the first round of the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament.

"Erin was obviously an integral part of our offence," said Head Coach Bruce Langford. "She can score in in many different ways, and her consistency this year was crucial."

Chambers led her team in scoring in 24 of 30 contests this season, leading SFU to a 20-10 record overall.

She also broke seven GNAC records in her junior season, including field goals in a season (220), points in a season (692) and scoring average in a season (23.1).

"I have one more year here," finished Chambers. "I want to keep improving and really bring everything I can to our team in my last season."

Chambers was one of three GNAC players to earn recognition on the All-American teams as Bobbi Knudsen of Montana State-Billings and Katie Benson of Seattle Pacific, both seniors at their respective institutions were named as well.
