Coach Langford gets the call to the Basketball BC Hall of Fame
Burnaby, BC – Basketball BC President Diana Chan and Executive Director Lawrie Johns have announced the 2012 inductees into the Basketball BC Hall of Fame and Simon Fraser University women’s basketball head coach Bruce Langford is among them.
"This is outstanding news," said Tim Rahilly, Associate Vice-President, Students. "Bruce has had a long and distinguished career at SFU. He's done an outstanding job recruiting while always being competitive and focusing on the student-athlete experience."
Langford (Port Coquitlam, BC) is currently in his 11th season as the head coach of the Clan, leading the Clan through nine years in Canadian Interuniversity Sport before spending the last two in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference of the NCAA.
His career record at SFU is an astonishing 276-60.
During his nine years in the CIS, Langford’s teams won five National Championships. He is a two-time recipient of the CIS Coach of the Year Award.
In addition to his many achievements coaching University basketball, he also has an impressive resume at the high school and provincial level.
At Hatzig Secondary School, Langford won a Provincial AA Championship in 1994 before he led Heritage Park Secondary to back-to-back AAA Provincial Championships in 2000 and 2001.
He also coached the Basketball BC women’s under-19 team to gold medals at the Canada Summer Games in 1997 and 2001.
Langford has also won the BBBC Coach of the Year Award twice.
“This (2012 induction) class represents very significant contributions to our sport both in British Columbia as well as beyond our provincial borders,” said Basketball BC Executive Director Johns in a press release. “This is our 10th class induction and we look forward to celebrating the individuals and team at our Gala on April 21 at the Langley Events Centre.”
