Dr. Tim Bach (pictured front row fifth from left) was a key member of the SFU swimming and diving program when it dominated the NAIA in the 1970s, winning nine consecutive NAIA National Championships from 1972-1980.

The Vancouver, BC, native was just 19 years old in 1972 when he led SFU to the school’s first national championship won by any team. A few months later he was one of the youngest members of Team Canada at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.

Following the Olympics, Tim returned to SFU to help ignite SFU's unprecedented success under innovative coaches Paul and Margaret Savage. Tim ultimately won seven NAIA individual national titles. He also competed in the 1971 Pan American Games and the 1973 World Student Games.
