Frode Strand-Nielsen (1977-80), a forward with men’s soccer, led the team in scoring as a freshman and played on the 1978 team that set an SFU record with 20 wins. Both seasons SFU was upset in the opening round of the NAIA national championship tournament in Huntsville, Alabama.

After graduation, Strand-Nielsen returned to his homeland of Norway and went on to become a leader in responsible and ethical investments and founder of the private equity firm, FSN Capital.

Strand-Nielsen personally established SFU’s first $1 million athletic scholarship endowment in support of men's soccer. The generous donation enables the program to compete for an NCAA championship on an annual basis. In 2011, men’s soccer was undefeated and ranked No. 1 in NCAA, and teams advanced to the Final Four in 2012 and 2013.

In 2020, the former men’s soccer captain gifted another $1-million gift to his alma mater to establish endowments to support varsity female athletes and invigorate the women’s soccer program. READ HERE
