Burnaby, BC – Simon Fraser University men's soccer head coach
Alan Koch has been selected to coach Team Canada at the 2013 Maccabi Games.
The Games are a global athletic competition for Jewish athletes and Koch will lead the men's team in the open division, which will feature several notable athletes born in 1994 or later.
“It's an absolute honour to attend the Macabbi Games with Team Canada,” said Koch. “This is one of the biggest international tournaments in the world and I look forward to trying to help Canada win a medal.”
Nearly 10,000 athletes took part in the last Games in 2009. The soccer competition is viewed as one of the premiere events, with countries such as Germany, France, Russia and the United States participating.
“This promises to be an amazing journey. I'd like to thank my employers SFU, for working with me on projects like this. In 2009, I coached the Whitecaps women in the W-League, in 2010 I took my NSCAA Premier Diploma, and in 2011 I started my UEFA coaching licenses. SFU's commitment to my own personal professional development is greatly appreciated,” concluded Koch.
The 2013 Maccabi Games will take place in Israel from July 17-July 30, 2013.
