CRETE, Neb. - The Simon Fraser University men's wrestling team faced Doane College in dual meet action on Friday, sweeping their opponents through 10 matches to win the dual 45-0.
"The team wrestled a solid match with our leaders setting the tone with dominating performances," said coach
Justin Abdou. "The seniors all had convincing wins and Reid (Watkins) also impressed with a fall in his Clan debut."
NCAA All-American
Skylor Davis (Zilah, WA) started the dual with a win for the Clan at 125-pounds by major decision of Jesse Marek to put the Clan ahead 4-0.
Sukhan Chahal (Surrey, BC) followed up Davis' performance by winning by technical fall at 133-pounds over John Larsen before Dillon Hume (Maple Ridge, BC) defeated Ray Feigenbutz at 141-pounds to bring the score to 13-0 for the Clan after three matches.
At 149-pounds
Brendan Seppala (Calgary, AB) kept the domination going for the Clan by defeating Greg Eagle by decision and
Josh Punzo (Burnaby, BC) kept it going at 157-pounds over Zach Schut.
Brock Lamb (Destin, FL) scored a win by fall over Carlos Toledano at 165-pounds and in his first collegiate match,
Reid Watkins (Okotoks, AB) won by fall over Austin Borne at 174-pounds, bring the team score to 35-0 for the Clan with three matches remaining.
Josh Kim (Toronto, ON) and
Ryan Yewchin (Nanaimo, BC) kept the Clan undefeated, defeating Chandler Knight and Kyle Hoffman at 184-pounds and 197-pounds respectively before
Arjun Gill (Surrey, BC) completed the sweep with a win over Reid Melani at 285 to give the Clan the 45-0 victory in the dual.
The Clan will be back in action on Saturday at the NIC Duals.
