BURNABY, BC – Steve Hanson, long-time coach of the Terry Fox Ravens in Port Coquitlam, BC, has joined Simon Fraser University as an assistant coach with the men's basketball program, Clan head coach
Virgil Hill announced today.
Hanson coached Terry Fox Secondary to the 2012 BC High School Boys Basketball 3A provincial championship and led the Ravens to a second place finish at the 2015 4A tournament.
"I have observed Steve's teams from a distance over the years and have been very impressed with how hard his players compete, the level of execution within his teams, and his overall work ethic," said Hill. "He is a coach in the truest sense of the word and will be a very key piece to the success of the program moving forward."
Hanson, who received his Bachelor of Education from Simon Fraser in 2013, coached in the Canada Basketball Centre of Performance program from 2009-2012, and has been heavily involved in youth basketball as the Head Coach of Player Development at 3D Basketball Academy in North Vancouver, BC.
Hanson also spent six years as a Speed & Strength Specialist with Gridiron Sports Development Inc.
"I am thrilled and extremely proud to become a part of the new SFU Men's Basketball coaching staff," said Hanson, who graduated from Terry Fox in 1992. "Coach Hill has a clear vision of how to succeed and I am excited to help that vision to become a reality."
