SFU will be off until they hit the road to compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals on Jan. 7-8 in Louisville, Kentucky. The tournament will enable the team to see some of the top wrestlers in the mid-west and east coast.
The team will welcome back
Lauren Mason in the new year as she returns to school as a graduate student. Mason picked up a pair of bronze medals at nationals in 2019 and 2020 and the team finished second in its pursuit of the national team championship both years.
The NCAA recognized women's wrestling as an emerging sport in 2020 for all three divisions. Currently, there are 110 institutions nationwide that will have competitive varsity women's wrestling teams in the next two years.
Collegiate women's wrestling is classified as a winter sport with competitions held from October-February. The Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA) governs the sport and has overseen the national championships since 2008. The national championships will be staged March 4-5 at Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan.
