BURNABY, B.C. – The Simon Fraser Red Leafs cross country teams posted a pair of second-place finishes at the Bill Roe Classic in Ferndale, Washington.
Saturday's event began with the men's eight-kilometer race, in which SFU scored 50 team points behind host Western Washington (43 points). In the women's six-km run, the Red Leafs recorded a collective score of 72 points, while the Vikings triumphed with 53.
Junior
Charlie Dannatt and sophomore
Scott Arndt led the SFU men. In his season debut, North Vancouver's Dannatt was sixth with a time of 24 minutes 55.4 seconds, and Arndt, of Waterloo, Ont., was right behind him in seventh (24:57.5).
Sebastian Brinkman was the third top-10 competitor for Canada's NCAA team. The junior from Bellevue, Wash., was ninth in 25:00.6. Sophomores
Aiden Good of Carstairs, Alta. (25:15.3), and Burnaby, B.C.'s
Henry Ruckman-Utting (25:20.0) were 15th and 17th, respectively, to round out the scoring performances.

For the second-consecutive race, juniors
Grace Chalk of Langley, B.C., and
Megan Roxby of North Vancouver were the highest-placing SFU runners. This week, it was Chalk who got to the finish line first, in sixth place (22:20.5). Roxby was ninth with a time of 22:33.2.
Sophomore
Charlotte Prangley (North Vancouver, B.C.) was the next runner through for the Red Leafs in 16th (22:52.9), followed by sophomores
Ella Marion (Calgary) and
Milena Kalisch (New Westminster, B.C.) in 23rd and 24th. Marion's time was 23:08.2, while Kalisch's was 23:11.5.
The next collegiate event for SFU will be on Friday, Oct. 7 at the San Francisco State Invitational.
