The SFU track and field team showcased outstanding performances at their final chance to qualify for the NCAA Division II Nationals, highlighted by a historic race from the women's 4x400m relay team, who shattered the GNAC record and secured their spot at Nationals.
Thomson's grit pays off
After facing illness in recent weeks,
Andrew Thomson demonstrated remarkable resilience with a personal-best time of 4:07.91 in the mile. His hard work throughout the season paid off, demonstrating his ability to compete at a high level when it mattered most.
Men's DMR: A collective best
The men's distance medley relay (DMR) team delivered an exceptional performance, crossing the line in 9:47.71. Each athlete recorded their fastest splits to date: Aiden led off with a strong 1200m leg, followed by Tyson, who excelled in the 400m leg. Colton clocked his fastest 800m split, and Hose brought it home with a strong mile to cap off the effort.
Women's 4x400m relay breaks GNAC record and heads to Nationals
The standout performance came from the women's 4x400m relay team, ranked 17th nationally entering the meet. They impressed with a phenomenal race, clocking an impressive 3:39.78, which not only set a new GNAC record but also qualifying them for the NCAA Division II Nationals. The team members—

Emma Cannan and Marie-Eloise Leclair had already secured individual spots at the NCAA DII Nationals. With their relay team qualifying as well, this strengthens SFU's presence at the upcoming championship event.
