Biography
From Gresham to Greatness
Growing up in Gresham, Oregon, just outside Portland, Rilyn's introduction to basketball began as a fun activity with friends. Joining a youth rec team at the YMCA in 2nd grade, she quickly fell in love with the sport. This core group of friends played together for years, creating strong bonds and a competitive spirit that carried them through high school.

High School Highlights
At Sam Barlow High School, Rilyn’s team achieved remarkable success, securing 2nd place in the state. Known for her tenacity, she led her team in rebounds and developed a mid-range shot. Off the court, she excelled academically, earning Valedictorian honors and being named Student of the Year. Her involvement in activities like art club and symphonic band showcased her commitment to a well-rounded high school experience.

A Unique Path to SFU
Rilyn's dual citizenship opened doors to opportunities in Canada. After learning about SFU through an alumni athlete, she reached out to Coach Langford. The supportive campus environment, coupled with SFU's strong academic programs, drew her in.

Mentorship and Personal Growth
At SFU, Rilyn connected with Jessica Wisotzki through the mentorship program. Initially intimidated by Jessica’s accomplishments, Rilyn soon found her to be an invaluable guide. This support helped her steer through the challenges of her first year, both academically and athletically. Transitioning from Biomedical Physiology to Health Sciences, Rilyn discovered a passion for Public Health.

Aspiring to Serve
Inspired by a ride-along experience at a fire station, Rilyn set her sights on becoming a paramedic on a fire unit. The idea of a physically active, team-oriented career appealed to her, and she was motivated by seeing a female fire lieutenant in action. With her Health Sciences education, Rilyn plans to take the necessary additional courses to achieve her dream of serving her community.

On-Court Presence
Rilyn plays as a center/power forward, known for her solid midrange and relentless defense. Despite being undersized for her position, she uses her agility to her advantage. Her commitment to improving her game is evident in her consistent work ethic and focus on becoming more aggressive on the court.

Balancing Life as a Student-Athlete
Rilyn has mastered the art of balancing academics and athletics. With a structured schedule, she prioritizes her schooling while dedicating time to practice. The camaraderie from her teammates have been contributory in her success, offering her a sense of belonging.

The connections Rilyn has made at SFU, especially within her recruiting class, have been a source of comfort. The genuine friendships have made SFU feel like a second home, reinforcing her decision to stay.
