NCAA Requirements

Grade 9

  • Register for a free profile account with the NCAA Eligibility Centerfor information on NCAA initial eligibility requirements.
  • Find your high school's list of NCAA approved courses to ensure you are taking the right courses. 
    • For Canadian or International students, these certified core courses may be found in the NCAA Guide to International Academic Standards for Athletics Eligibility (under Helpful Links).
    • For American students, you may search for your school here to find your school's certified core courses or your high school counselor can log into their high school portal.

Grade 10

  • Transition your free profile account to an Academic & Amateurism Certification account.
  • Continue to take the right courses; ask your counselor for help with finding approved core courses you can take. You may use this worksheet to help track core courses.

Grade 11

  • Check with your high school counselor to make sure you are on track to complete the required number of NCAA approved core course. 
  • Ensure your sports participation information is correct in your Eligibility Center account.
  • At the end of the school year, ask your high school counselor to send your grade 9-11 transcripts to the Eligibility Center

Grade 12

  • Request your final amateurism certification beginning April 1 (fall enrollees) or Oct 1 (winter/spring enrollees) in your Eligibility Center account.
  • Complete your final courses as you prepare for graduation.
  • After you graduate, ask your high school counselor to send your final official high school transcript with proof of graduation to the NCAA Eligibility Center.
  • Non-English documents will need to be translated by a certified translator. The NCAA requires both the originals and translations, along with a copy of the translator's letter confirming their credentials. Please visit this NCAA webpage for instructions.

NCAA Core Course Requirements – must achieve an overall 2.2 core course GPA

  • 3 years of English
  • 2 years of Math
  • 2 years of Natural/Physical Science
  • 3 years of additional English, Math, Science
  • 2 years of Social Science
  • 4 years of additional courses from the above or a world language, comparative religion, or philosophy
