Burnaby, BC - Simon Fraser University women's cross-country runner Rebecca Bassett (Nanaimo, BC) has earned the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year award folowing the conference championships.

Bassett had a 15th place finish at the GNAC championships helping the Clan women earn a second place finish overall.

The top freshman to finish at the conferene meet earns the award, and Bassett had the winning performance in her first six-kilometre race with the Clan.

Men's cross-country runner Oliver Jorgensen (Abbotsford, BC) also eaned the GNAC Freshman of the Year award on the men's side allowing the Clan to sweep the conference awards.

Jorgensen led the men's squad to their best-ever GNAC performance, a third place overall finish, as he would come ninth individually to earn All-Conference honours as well.

The men's and women's teams return to the races in two weeks time for the NCAA West Regional Championships in Spokane, WA. The top five teams on each side will advance to the Division II Nationals.
