Vancouver, BC - On Monday morning, The Province newspaper announced their 14th annual Head of Class honourees and two Simon Fraser University freshman were included.

Both players will join the SFU women's basketball program this fall as Elisa Homer joins the Clan from Handsworth Secondary and Fiona Beales comes to SFU from Port Coquitlam's Riverside Secondary.

Beales captained one of the top high school programs in British Columbia at Riverside and has represented British Columbia at the under-17, under-16 and under-15 levels.

This past season, Homer averaged 26.2 points per game this past season with a field goal percentage of 43 percent and in one game, notched 50 points.

She also averaged four rebounds and two steals per game and was named a first team all-star at the Telus Classic this season.

"If you made a regular habit out of watching the big invitational basketball tournaments in B.C. this season, including the provincial championships, it was impossible to miss what Elisa and Fiona brought to the court," said Howard Tsumura, high school and university sports reporter for The Province. "Elisa set the bar for the rest of the province in terms of what an attacking, aggressive-minded guard could do on the court, and Fiona displayed a multi-faceted skill set that was enhanced by her hustle, her strength and her dynamic range of abilities. It will be exciting to watch their progress over the next four years, and how much better they will become with veteran leader Erin Chambers there to provide guidance."

Inclusion in Head of the Class is the highest honour The Province can accord a graduating student-athlete in B.C. with and since its inception in 2000, a total of 24 Clan athletes have attained HOC status, amongst the highest of all schools.
