Geneva, OH - Simon Fraser University swimmers were back in action at the 2014 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship on
Thursday, the second day of the four day event.
Despite not making the final, the freestyle relay team put in a strong performance, finishing 12th as Wednesday's All-American Nicole Cossey (Innisfail, AB), freshman Lauren Swistak (Port Moody, BC), Carmen Nam (Hong Kong, China) and Alexandria Schofield (Coquitlam, BC) finished in a time of 1:35.68.
Schofield went on to reach the consolation final in the 100-yard butterfly and swam the final in a time of 56.15 seconds, improving on her performance from the 2013 NCAA Championship.
Nam and Swistak also competed in 400-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly respectively, but did not advance.
SFU will be back in action at the championship on Friday.
Grace Ni (Prince George, BC) enters the 100-yard backstroke event with a seed time of 56 seconds, which ties her for the 11th best time in the field.
Two Clan swimmers will compete in the 200-yard butterfly as Nam and Schofield will race in the event. Nam is seeded third thanks to a time a 2:01.23.
The Clan will also field a team in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The preliminary session will get underway at 7:30 a.m. PST while the championship session begins at 3:00 p.m. PST.
