Following their senior seasons with the Simon Fraser University Clan football program, five 2013 Clan seniors impressed at the 2014 Canadian Football League Combine this past weekend.
Matthias Goossen, Casey Chin, Tore Corrado, Derek Jones and Dylan Roper all posted some excellent numbers at the annual event, as they look to get on the scouts radars heading into the 2014 CFL Draft which will take place on May 13.
Simon Fraser was the highest represented institution at the combine with five men attending in five different positions.
The recent Clan alumni have trained continuously with the school's strength and conditioning program since the culmination of the football season in November 2013 in preparation for the combine.
Goossen is the Clan's highest ranked player, sitting fifth in the draft rankings, and did not disappoint at the combine as per CFL analysts, managing to solidify his place a potential first-round pick.
The Richmond, BC native finished in a tie for fifth place in the bench press testing with 29 reps, and had good showings in the one-on-one portion of the combine.
Chin entered the combine with an eleventh place ranking, and posted 25 reps in the bench press, and ran a 4.716 in the 40-yard dash.
He also finished no lower than third among linebackers in any of the individual tests, and showed versatility in the one-on-ones as well.
Jones showed top scores in the 40-yard dash and the three-cone drill running times of 4.51 and 7.21 for third best makes in both categories.
The defensive back also had a run of 4.31 seconds in the shuttle test, showing off his speed across the three tests.
Corrado and Roper were selected to the CFL combine by virtue of their performances at the Edmonton Regional Combine prior to the national event.
Corrado posted the fastest time in the three-cone drill, running 7.03, and also had fifth place finishes in the 40-yard dash and the shuttle, with times of 4.56 and 4.22 respectively.
Roper improved one rep from his Edmonton Combine results, lifting 27 reps at the national event in the bench press test which was fourth out of all the defensive linemen.
He also finished fourth and sixth in his position in the three-cone drill and the shuttle run.
The five men will now continue their training as they await the results of the 2014 CFL Draft, which will take place on Tuesday, May 13.
