BURNABY, B.C. - Making their debut as a founding member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's (RMAC) women's wrestling division, the SFU Red Leafs dominated in a meet against the Linfield (Oregon) Wildcats and the Texas Women's Pioneers on Friday night. Hosting both squads at West Gym, SFU bested the Wildcats 38-3 before scoring a 34-10 win over the Pioneers.

"It always feels good to get a win," said SFU's Victoria Seal. "We always have to go back to the drawing board, always have things to work on. But I'm so proud of my team. They're my best support system, we support each other so well and I see us doing really well this year."

Against Linfield, SFU took the 101, 116, 130, and 191-pound brackets by forfeit, and were full value in the other classes. Maple Ridge, B.C.'s Ivy Threatful (123-lb class) and Jade Trolland of Abbotsford, B.C. (143) took down their Wildcat opponents by technical falls, while Marquesis Haintz of Maple Ridge, B.C. (136) and Paige Maher from Port Alberni, B.C., both won their matches by fall.

Ayanda Medina scored Linfield's only points of the match, netting a 4-3 decision over Mikaela Trolland (Abbotsford, B.C.) in the 170-lb bout.
 

In its historic opening conference dual, SFU beat new league rivals Texas Woman's, which came into the weekend tied for 24th in the pre-season national rankings. The 101 and 109-lb classes saw each side pick up a win by forfeit. Then, Maddie MacKenzie (116), Seal (123) and Haintz won their respective classes by fall. The Red Leafs' Jade Trolland (136) earned an 8-3 decision, before Clara Scaglione of Burnaby, B.C. (143) and Maher (150) took their bouts by technical fall. Nari Miller got TWU's lone contested win of the match by fall at 170-lbs. Julia Richey from Thousand Oaks, California, then wrapped up the day with a non-contest decision over Kylee Spearman in the 191-lb bracket.
