SFU ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME SELECTION CATEGORIES & CRITERIA

As a way of honouring former athletes, coaches, builders and teams the Simon Fraser University Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1986.

In 2013, the Terry Fox Honourary Inductee category was established in tribute to Canadian hero Terry Fox, who was a Simon Fraser University student and member of the junior varsity basketball team prior to losing his right leg to bone cancer in 1977 at the age of 18.

Coaches must have coached at least five years at SFU.  The five-year minimum is waived if the coach graduated from SFU or completed their last two years of eligibility at SFU.  Requirements may be waived on a case-by-case basis with extenuating circumstances and the approval of the Athletics Director. Coaches currently on staff are not eligible.

Teams:
Teams may be nominated five years after their season of competition. One Simon Fraser University team may be selected each year from one of the following four athletic eras: NAIA (pre-1970’s), NAIA (post 1970’s), CIS, and NCAA.

Builders:
This category has been created to recognize the extraordinary achievements and contributions made by individuals with a past association to the Simon Fraser Athletic Department.  This honour seeks to recognize individuals who have contributed not only to SFU, but other outside endeavors such as education, community, provincial, or national service.
