	DR GORDON SHRUM ATHLETIC ENDOWMENT Est. 1981 The football game between SFU and UBC that started in 1967 is affectionately named the Shrum Bowl after SFU's first Chancellor. Premier W.A.C. Bennett asked Dr. Gordon Shrum to come out of retirement to build a new University in Burnaby. Simon Fraser University was Shrum's brain child, melding academics and athletics and offering students athletic scholarships. He passed away in 1985 and leaves behind a legacy in the athletics programs at both UBC and SFU. WATCH
	W.LORNE DAVIES ATHLETIC ENDOWMENT Est. 1989 Dr. Davies became the first athletic director and football coach at SFU in 1965, and almost immediately began masterminding some of the most forward-thinking measures in Canadian university sport. He hired full-time coaches, promoted female participation in university sport, awarded athletic scholarships to student-athletes, and took SFU on a path to compete in the United States against American competition in the NAIA--offering student-athletes access to the American athletic experience with a Canadian education. He passed away on February 27, 2015. He was 84. READ
	BILL De VRIES ENDOWMENT Est. 1994 The Bill De Vries Senior All-Around Athlete of the Year is presented to an individual who excels academically, is an impact athlete in competition and possess the personal qualities of integrity and generosity.
	RICK JONES MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT Est. 1976 The Rick Jones Award for Courage is presented to an athlete who has overcome adversity and persevered through enormous personal challenge to return to competition. This award pays tribute to the resiliency of the human spirit. I direct your attention to the big screen.
	SFU ATHLETIC AWARD ENDOWMENT Est. 1978 This endowment was established by many former student-athletes who passionately believe in the value and benefits of sports to the student-athlete experience and developing future community leaders. These individuals wanted to establish a legacy for future student-athletes, providing them with the opportunity to pursue the sport they love at the university level.
	WOMEN'S ATHLETIC ENDOWMENT Est. 2000 This endowment was established to support female student-athletes in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence at SFU.
