Tyus Jefferson

Simon Fraser University Men’s Basketball is proud to announce the addition of Tyus Jefferson to the Red Leafs coaching staff as an Assistant Coach.

Tyus brings with him a wealth of experience from a successful playing and coaching career at the collegiate, professional, and grassroots levels. Most recently, he played professionally overseas, with stops in Greece, Kosovo, and Russia. While in Kosovo, he led his team to promotion and was named Finals MVP, before moving on to Russia where he was recognized as First-Team All-Imports by Eurobasket.

Before his professional career, Tyus was a standout guard for the University of Alberta Golden Bears under Head Coach Barnaby Craddock. During his time in Edmonton, he helped lead the Golden Bears to three consecutive U SPORTS National Championship Tournament appearances, earning numerous accolades along the way:
  • U SPORTS Defensive Player of the Year (2021)
  • U SPORTS First-Team All-Canadian (2021)
  • U SPORTS Final 8 All-Star Team (2021)
  • Canada West Player of the Year (2021)
  • Canada West Defensive Player of the Year (2021)
  • Canada West First Team All-Star (2021)
  • Canada West Third Team All-Star (2020)

Tyus remains the only player in Canada West history to win Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and First Team All-Star in the same season.

Prior to his time at Alberta, Tyus competed at Treasure Valley Community College, where he earned Second Team All-Star honors in the NWAC East Conference (2018) and was also named to the All-Defensive Team. He was selected to attend the prestigious JUCO All-American Camp in Las Vegas.

In addition to his playing background, Tyus brings deep experience as a coach and mentor. He has served as a skills trainer and club coach in his local community, including time with the respected Salt Lake Rebels AAU program, where he played a key role in helping athletes earn opportunities at the NCAA Division I level and beyond.

The Red Leafs are thrilled to welcome Tyus to Burnaby and look forward to the energy, experience, and leadership he will bring to the program.
