Portland, OR - Simon Fraser University runningback Chris Tolbert (Silver Springs, MD) has been named the Red Lion Co-Offensive Player of the Week in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The transfer from Central Connecticut scored twice in the fourth quarter to lead the Clan to a 21-14 comeback victory over Central Washington on the road.

After striking first in the first quarter of play, SFU fell behind an aggressive Wildcat side until a fourth quarter surge led by Tolbert changed the game in the visitor's favour.

The 6-0, 190-pound junior caught four passes and rushed for 106 yards on the day, including a 10-yard touchdown run which was followed by a two-point conversion pass from quarterback Ryan Stanford (Phoenix, AZ) to Bobby Pospischil (Coquitlam, BC) that tied the game at 14.

He later scored the game winning touchdown, catching a 27-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Blum (Santa Rosa, CA), propelling the Clan to their first victory over the Wildcats in Ellensburg, WA since 1980.

Tolbert shares the award this week with Western Oregon quarterback Ryan Bergman.

Clan linebacker Mitchell Barnett (North Vancouver, BC) also earned an honourable mention for defensive player of the week following his first game of season.

The sophomore had five solo and six assisted tackles during the Clan's victory, helping the Clan improve to 2-0.

The Clan host their home opener on Saturday September, 28 at Terry Fox Field against the Western Oregon Wolves. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m.
