Portland, OR - Simon Fraser University women's cross-country runner Kirsten Allen (London, ON) has been named the Red Lion Athlete of the Week in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

This is the second consecutive week that an SFU women's runner has won the award, as captain Lindsey Butterworth (North Vancouver, BC) was last week's honouree.

In the second meet of the season Allen earned her second seventh place finish in two weeks, crossing the finish line of the five-kilometre race in 22:06.17 minutes, and closing the gap on Butterworth from 16 seconds to seven.

Butterworth and Allen finished 1-2 among National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II competitors in the race, propelling the women to a first-place finish over Division II teams, and to a second-place overall finish behind Division I institution Lipscomb, ahead of Gonzaga and Washington State.

Allen was also a GNAC academic athlete award recipient in 2012 and 2013.

The Clan cross-country squads travel to Stanford, CA for the Stanford Invitational on September 28.
