Portland, OR - Simon Fraser University men's golfer
Bret Thompson (Winnipeg, MB) has been named the Red Lion Golfer of the Week in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
It is the second consecutive week that a Clan golfer has won the award, as captain
Mike Belle (Burnaby, BC) earned the honour last week.
Thompson finished third in the Chico State Interwest Wildcat Classic with a 36-hole score of 142.
He fired a three-under par 69 in the second round after opening with a 73.
The third and final round of the tournament was cancelled due to high winds.
Thompson has competed in all three tournaments the Clan played in during their fall schedule and currently sits third on the team in stroke average at 74.9.
He is just behind teammates
Kevin Vigna (Coquitlam, BC) and Belle who lead the team with averages of 74.4 and 74.7 respectively.
Thompson's performances at the Western Washington Invitational, the Golfweek Invitational and the Chico State Interwest Wildcat Classic have helped the Clan finish as the top GNAC school at each tournament on the fall schedule.
The fall season for the SFU men's golf team wrapped up at the Interwest Wildcat Classic and the squad will now turn their attention to the spring schedule which begins in
February 2014.
