Portland, OR – Simon Fraser University men’s basketball player Sango Niang (Paris, France) has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Red Lion Player of the Week.

Niang’s performance led his team to a split weekend, defeating Central Washington Universityon Thursday before falling to Northwest Nazarene on Saturday.

The junior had 63 points and 21 assists over the two games as he recorded two double-doubles on the weekend.

In Thursday’s win Niang scored 36 points and added 11 assists leading the Clan to a 112-99 victory over CWU.

He was only two rebounds away from his first career triple-double, as he recorded eight rebounds as well on the night.

He scored scoring the second most points in GNAC history in a game in which the player also had 10 or more assists.

On Saturday Niang had a 27 point, ten assist performance in SFU’s 98-90 loss to NNU.

Over the weekend he made 19 of 29 field goal attempts and was a perfect 20 for 20 from the foul line.

Niang and the Clan are back in action closing out the 2013-14 season as they travel south to face Western Oregon and Saint Martin’s this weekend.
