Incredible Moment 34: NAIA Wrestling Champions

Mike Jones knows how hard it is to win a national title. It took his Clan 11 years of close calls and near misses before they finally won SFU’s first NAIA wrestling championship in 1988.

Simon Fraser University is 50, and to celebrate, we're counting down 50 Incredible Moments in Clan History. Today we look back on the head coach Mike Jones first NAIA national wrestling title in 1988.

Mike Jones knows how hard it is to win a national title. It took his Clan 11 years of close calls and near misses before they finally won SFU's first NAIA wrestling championship in 1988. Dan Payne (heavyweight) and Ed Sernoski (150-pounds) won nationals titles while Craig Roberts (142) and Gianni Buono (177) finished second. Seven Clan wrestlers earned All-American honours.
