Victoria Saunders, sophomore
Psychology Major with Kinesiology Minor

Why did you choose to attend SFU?
SFU was a great opportunity for me to start my independence by travelling across the country while furthering my education and athletics.

Favorite class and why? I am taking Psyc 260, social Psychology and the professor is very engaging and enthusiastic. I find the social aspect on why we behave the way we do quite interesting and I may have a future relating to social interactions after I graduate.

What extracurricular activities do you do: I am a member of SAAC and go to the gym regularly.

The reason I chose to get involved in SAAC:  I got interested in SAAC my first year as I heard that they help the community in various ways and I wanted to help give back to people who may be less fortunate all the while meeting new people who are also balancing athletics and academics.

Most memorable SAAC activity: Winter Gala

Most important thing you've learned balancing the demands of athletics and academics?  Sometimes you have to say no to a night downtown with your friends, and instead grab a table at Tim Hortons and study with a little bit of socializing in between.

Current mentor:  my grandmother

Future goals after school: I plan on getting my masters in Psychology and become either a social worker or a sports psychologist.

Biggest obstacle overcame during collegiate career: I have learned that I am what stands in the way of my greatest achievements. Once I allow myself to see my own potential am I able to truly excel in my abilities.

Best advice to an incoming freshman: Hit the books before they hit you! That doesn't mean you can't enjoy the fun activities to get involved, but learn time management as quickly as possible. This is supposed to be the best time of your life so live it up!

If I could spend the day with one person (past or present), who would it be (and why)? Wayne Gretzky because I would like to know the mental training he went through to get to the top.

Favorite sports team:  Blue Jays and Boston Bruins

Favorite athlete and why: Wayne Gretzky, because besides all of his great accomplishments he is now a great role model for hockey players and athletes globally.

Favorite type of music:  country and pop

Favorite recording artist: Jason Aldean

Favorite food:  anything with chocolate

Most memorable sports-related moment: First college career hit, and homerun.

Your personal pump-up song: Eye of the Tiger

What are your words to live by:  I've always loved the quote "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog"

One unusual thing in your locker: A letter from one of last year's seniors.

One thing other than your phone that you can't live without: My running shoes

One thing that people don't know about me is: I've been skydiving 3 times.
