Not only is Simon Fraser University’s Beedie Field the northern most Collegiate softball field in North America but also is located atop Burnaby Mountain in British Columbia, Canada - making it the only NCAA field outside of the United States.
Beedie Field officially opened in the fall of 2010, has the following features:
• State of the art subsurface drainage and multi zone programmable irrigation system Irrigation complete with a user controlled one button infield wet-down system for quick and easy watering of the infield during periods of dry weather.
• Outfield warning track - a synthetic surface (OM3000-sandwich system) which consists of polyurethane bound rubber granules - chosen for its low
maintenance, durability and consistence performance.
• Outfield grass - use of a nursery grown sand based sports turf which uses a specific seed mixture (50% Kentucky Bluegrass, 40% Perennial Ryegrass and 10% Fescue) designed for aggressive use and quick recovery in the Pacific Northwest climate.
• Lighting - A six pole Musco lighting system is in place for use in low light
and night-time game play. This system provides consistent light levels
throughout the whole field of play.
• Infield surfacing - A specific mixture designed for the northwest using
sands, silt and pro's choice were chosen for the infield to deliver
consistent ball play and give extended play during both wet and dry weather conditions.
• 50 foot sunken concrete dugouts complete with custom bat and helmet racks with rubberized floors
• Score booth suitable for seating 4 across viewing area
- Also contains ticket/concession area and umpire’s change room
- Men’s and Women’s wheelchair accessible washrooms
Additional features include:
- Dual lane bull pens for each team
- A fully enclosed batting cage
- Electronic Inning by Inning score board
- Berm beyond center field fence for elevated viewing area
