Coach Donnelly began with the SFU Varsity team in 1991 as an assistant coach. In the fall of 1992 he became one of the nation's youngest Head University coaches. Over the past 18 years he has coached SFU teams to 15 collegiate national team titles including 143 individual national titles and 62 NAIA national championship records. Internationally Coach Donnelly had guided SFU swimmers representing Canada to 10 International medals. The swimming and diving teams both consistently finish in the top academic performing varsity teams at SFU.

• 35 years experience in competitive swimming
• 18 years as a University Head Coach in an American Collegiate system
• 17 Collegiate National Championship Teams
• 13 years of International Coaching experience (11 International medals)
• Coached swimmers to 180 National Championship wins (67 in National record times)
• Coached swimmers to the World Championships, World University Games, the Pan Pacific Games and the Pan American Games representing Canada.
• Volunteers on the Swim BC (Provincial Sport organization) technical advisory and finance committee.
• Developed a relationship with Cystic Fibrosis Canada and helped revitalize their annual Swim-A-Rama event at SFU grow from less than 15 participants in 2004 to over 500 between 2006 and 2011 and raising over $ 70,000.00)
