Clan give Capilano the Blues

Box Score Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University volleyball team got back in the win column with a three set victory over the Capilano University Blues on Wednesday night in the West Gym.

“We came together as a team tonight and everyone did their jobs when we needed them,” said hitter Katie Forsyth (Delta, BC). “We came out with a tight game plan and high energy knowing exactly what we had to do to get the win.”

Forsyth was a key to the Clan's win contributing 14 kills. Jessica Young (Vancouver, BC) also helped out with 13 kills while Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC) added 11 digs.

Jacqueline Cavery led Capilano with 12 digs.

SFU jumped out in front in the first set resulting in a 12-5 lead. After a 8-0 run, the Clan expanded the lead to 23-15, eventually winning the set point off an attack from Young.

Despite multiple ties early on, SFU proved victorious again in the second set. Leading by as much as 14 midway through, the Clan took the set finishing with a 25-15 score.

Capilano fought back in the third set, taking away SFU's initial lead and taking the lead themselves, at 12-11. After a timeout, the Clan answered with a 7-0 run and led the rest of the way, eventually finishing out the match, with a 25-19 third set victory.

The win brings the Clan's record to 3-12 on the season while SFU remains 0-8 in conference play.

“We need to keep our strong starts up and finish through with consistency. Every position needs to be working together throughout the team,” added Forsyth.

The Clan return to the West Gym on October 13, 2012 when they take on the Western Washington University Vikings at 7:00 p.m.
