Clan chase the Cougars off Burnaby Mountain

Box Score Burnaby, BC - For the second time this week, the Simon Fraser University men's soccer team beat a team by five of more goals on Terry Fox Field, this time defeating the University of Sioux Falls Cougars, 6-0.

“We've been working a lot on finishing in practice but we still have a lot to work on” said Colby Liston (Glendale, AZ) who had two goals in the game. “We need to take the momentum from these two wins into our road trip get some victories on the road.”

Ryan Dhillon (North Delta, BC) also had a pair of goals in the game and goalkeeper Hide Ozawa (Victoria, BC) recorded his second shutout of the week and fourth of the season. 

The Clan's first goal was scored in the seventh minute when Michael Winter (Vancouver, BC) found the back of the net off a cross from Carlo Basso (Coquitlam, BC).

The second goal was scored minutes later, in the 14th minute, this time by freshman Colin Jacques (Richmond, BC) as he put the ball in the back of the net after securing a rebound from Justin Wallace's shot that was saved by the keeper. 

SFU took a commanding 3-0 lead before heading into the locker room when junior forward Colby Liston (Glendale, AZ) got on the board with his second goal of the season. 

The second half was quiet until late when Ryan Dillon (North Delta, BC) scored back-to-back goals in the 78th and 89th minutes to give the Clan a 5-0 lead.

Liston sealed the win with his second of the game and third of the season when he punched in a goal off a rebound in the final minute.

"We can definitely be better defensively," said head coach Alan Koch. "We are happy to win games and to create so many opportunities but we need to do a better job at containing the team we're playing."

The win improves the Clan's record to 12-1 on the season and 8-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, keeping Simon Fraser in first place in the GNAC.

The Clan will now head to Idaho and Montana to face the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders and Montana State University-Billings Yellowjackets next week.  The Clan's final home game will be on Terry Fox Field on Sunday, November 4 when they host the Western Washington Vikings at 3:00 p.m.  Admission is free.
