Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University women's basketball team hit the court for their first game of the 2012-2013 season, beating Douglas College 101-40 in exhibition play.
Carla Wyman (North Vancouver, BC) and
Erin Chambers (Mission, BC) led all Clan players in scoring, netting 25 points apiece on the night.
Former SFU basketball player Amonda Francis was Douglas' top scorer earning 13 points.
Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe (Toronto, ON), the Great Northwest Athletic Conference pre-season player of the year led the Clan with 13 rebounds and five assists, and adding 16 points to the team total.
“We started strong and shot well,” said head coach
Bruce Langford. “On the defensive end we'll need to focus a bit more and protect the ball better than we did tonight."
The Clan women stormed out of the gates and earned an early 20-3 lead over the visiting Royals by the fifth minute, ending the first half with a 49-18 lead.

Meg Wilson (London, ON) and
Belce Yoruk (Kesan, Turkey) had their first taste of collegiate basketball suiting up for the Clan and earning two points each.
The Clan continued to dominate in the second half of the game, netting 53 points and allowing Douglas College only 22 points in the period, earning the 61-point victory.
The Clan women will now travel south to take on division I opponent Washington State University on October 30 at 7:00 p.m. as they continue exhibition play.
