Clan get bit by the Wolves

Box Score Monmouth, OR – The Simon Fraser University volleyball team finished their weekend road trip on Saturday night, falling in straight sets to the Western Oregon Wolves by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-13.

“Our passing was not the best tonight,” said head coach Lisa Sulatycki.  “That put our hitters in tough situations and made it tough to score points.   In practice on Monday we need to learn from our mistakes and get better for next week.”

Jessica Young (Vancouver, BC) led the Clan with nine kills in the match, and Madeline Hait (Burnaby, BC) was close behind her with seven.

Tamara Nipp (Vancouver, BC) led SFU with 21 assists while Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC) had 15 digs.

Western Oregon's Danielle Reese led all players with 13 kills in the match while LesLyne Satele had 22 assists and Megan Triggs led the Wolves defensively with 17 digs.

The Wolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set before the Clan battled back to tie the score at six.  The two sides traded points to push the score to 8-8 before the Wolves built up a five point lead at 21-16.  The Clan shaved a couple points off the deficit late but dropped the first set 25-22.

The Clan jumped out to a 9-6 lead in the second set before the Wolves started to claw back into the set, scoring the next four points to take a 10-9 lead.  The Wolves outscored the Clan 15-6 throughout the rest of the set, to take the second 25-15.

Western Oregon scored the opening point of the third set, and led from start to finish, taking the set 25-13 and the match three sets to none.

With the loss, the Clan's record falls to 4-16 on the season, 1-12 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.

The Clan will return home next week to face the University of Alaska Fairbanks in the West Gym on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and the University of Alaska Anchorage on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.  Student admission is free for both games.
