Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University women's soccer team lost 2-0 to the Western Washington University Vikings on Thursday night.
In the 20th minute, Viking striker Bryna Sych scored WWU's first goal giving them the lead.
The Clan fought back and SFU midfielder Yva Rodriguez (Port Coquitlam, BC) had a great opportunity to tie the game when her shot from just outside the 18 yard box was stopped by WWU's goalie Jamie Arthurs.
In the second half the Vikings doubled their lead early when Catherine Miles put the ball in the back of the home side's net only two minutes in.
The Clan struggled to capitalize with their chances throughout the game but held the Vikings to a closer 2-0 game than their last meeting where WWU won 6-0.
Clan goalkeeper Amanda Gilliland (Delta, B.C.) had another strong performance blocking 12 shots on the night.
“We've got to keep shooting on the net and our accuracy is going to come” said Gilliland. “We've improved a lot and the drives for our team are much more aggressive, we just need to get more shots on target”.
With this loss, the Clan's records drops to 1-9 and 0-7 in conference play.
The Clan will be back in action Saturday in Seattle, WA against the Seattle Pacific University Falcons.
