Clan make it two in a row over Northwest Indian

11/10/2012 10:14:00 PM

Box Score Burnaby, BC – For the second consecutive night, the Simon Fraser University men's basketball team dominated with a 112-78 win over the Northwest Indian College Eagles.

“Last night gave us a lot of confidence in knowing we can beat a team by so much," said Taylor Dunn (Vancouver, WA).  "As we came into tonight, everyone was confident in what they were doing."

Dunn led the Clan with a game high 23 points.

Rotating 11, the Clan raked in points from 10 players, half of whom finished in double digits.

“It's very important that everyone gets a chance to play because at some point of the season were going to need every single guy on the team to step up and make plays for us. In a  situation like this it is good to just get guys out there and get experience,” continued Dunn.

Anto Olah (Australia) and Ibrahim Appiah (Montreal, QB) both earned double-doubles as Olah ended with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Appiah counted 10 rebounds and 17 points.

Guard Elijah Matthews (Washington, DC) came out big finishing with 17.

SFU also relied on freshmen players as Matt Staudacher (Kirkland, WA) chipped in 12 points and Jahmar Thompson (Brampton, ON) nabbed 11 rebounds.

Nick Perro led the Eagles with 22.

The early minutes of the half were a back and forth battle as neither team was able to build up a lead beyond five.

At 10:49, a shot from beyond the arc by Perro gave the Eagles a one point edge but it was the final time NIC would lead.

SFU fired up and took back the momentum with a 30-9 run which expanded their lead to a solid 20 points.

Not letting up, the Clan led 69-39 going into the break.

Continuing to push, SFU maintained at least a 30-point lead against the Eagles the remainder of the game.

The 34 point victory improves SFU's record to 2-0.

SFU will return to the court on Monday, November 12 when the Clan will take on Douglas College at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and free for SFU students.

“Were just going to come out with the same mentality on Monday that we did for the last two games. Right from the jump we want to be aggressive and take it to them rather then sit back and let them dictate the game,” finished Dunn.
