Olah's big night leads the Clan over the Eagles

Burnaby, BC – Anto Olah (Austrailia) led all players with 23 points and hauled in 20 rebounds as the Simon Fraser University men's basketball team defeated the Northwest Indian College Eagles 104-52 to open the non-conference portion of their schedule.

Elijah Matthews (Washington, DC) finished close behind Olah in points with 21.

In total, five members of the Clan scored in double digits as David Gebru (Seattle, WA), John Bantock (Kamloops, BC) and Taylor Dunn (Vancouver, WA) also reached that mark.

Behind Olah in rebounds was Gebru who grabbed 11 boards and Ibrahim Appiah (Montreal, QC) had 10.

Randy Evans led Northwest Indian College with 19 points and tied for the team lead in rebounds, with Patrick Fouser and Nick Perro as all three players had four.

The Clan shot 53.2 percent from the floor and even better from beyond the arc, shooting 55.6 percent on three point attempts.

NIC shot 26.5 percent from the floor and 23.8 percent on three pointers.

The game was never in doubt for SFU, as the Clan men opened the game with a 16-1 run in the first five minutes to open up a 15 point lead.

Freshman Matt Staudacher (Kirkland, WA) hit a jumper in the closing seconds of the first half to give the Clan a 34 point lead at halftime, as SFU led 55-21.

The Clan outscored NIC 30-8 in the paint in the opening half and the SFU bench outscored their opponents 22-0.

The Clan increased their lead by 18 points in the second half, outscoring Northwest Indian 49-31 en route to the 104-52 victory.

Head coach James Blake ensured his entire team saw action in this game, as no player was on the floor for more than 27 minutes, an no one played less than 10.

The season opening win puts the Clan's record at 1-0, as SFU will host NIC once more on Saturday afternoon in the West Gym at 3:00 p.m.  Admission is free for SFU students.
