Burnaby, BC – Breaking 100 points for the third consecutive game, the Simon Fraser University men's basketball defeated the Douglas College Royals by 70 points on Monday, 115-45.

“We just wanted to come out strong from the get go," said Matt Raivio (Vancouver, WA).  "We aimed to play tough defence so they could never take control and our offence came through again tonight."

Raivio finished the night with 19 points, six assists, and five steals.

The Clan kept up the strong chemistry seen previously as every player who suited up chipped in points, four of whom hit double digits.

“We are a really different team from last year. We have great chemistry so we're able to pass the ball around and get the team effort going,” Raivio continued.

Taylor Dunn (Vancouver, WA) led all Clan members with 23 points. Elijah Matthews (Washington, DC) was a close second scoring 21. Also hitting double digits was David Gebru (Seattle, WA) who contributed 16.

Anto Olah (Austrailia) helped out on the boards grabbing 11 rebounds.

Leading the Royals was Dustin Egelstad who scored 15 points.

Starting the game on a high note, Matthews sunk a deep three-pointer on the Clan's first possession to put SFU on the board.

Three-pointers proved to be key for the Clan as five players hit shots from beyond the arc leading to the Clan shooting 56 percent from beyond the arc in the first half.

After an 18-6 run early on, which included two converted three-point shots within 30 seconds from Matthews, SFU led DC by 21.

The Clan continued their tough defence, holding the Royals to only two points for the next eight minutes. During the Royals cold streak, SFU took off on a 20-2 run to expand their lead to 61-24 as they headed into the locker rooms.

Throughout the second half, SFU outscored Douglas 54 to 21. Likewise, the Clan outrebounded the Royals 47 to 27 while forcing 21 turnovers.

The win improves the Clan's record to 3-0, as SFU will now shift their focus to Wednesday when they take on the Capilano University Blues at 7:00 p.m. in the West Gym.

General admission is $10.00 and SFU students are free.
