Seattle, WA – The Simon Fraser University volleyball team wrapped up their 2012 season with a loss in straight sets to the Seattle Pacific Falcons on Saturday night.
Jessica Young (Vancouver, BC) and Keirsten Mend (Naramata, BC) tied for the team lead in kills with 11 while Madeline Hait (Burnaby, BC) was close behind with eight. Victoria Senges (Surrey, BC) and Amanda Renkema (Delta, BC) each had six kills for SFU.
Tamara Nipp (Vancouver, BC) led the Clan in assists in their final match with 34 while Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC) led the team with 19 digs. Young and Senges each added 12 digs of their own.
Seattle Pacific's Cailin Fellows led all players with 15 kills in the match while Shelby Swanson led in assists with 38.
Brianna Leenders led Seattle Pacific in digs with 17.
Simon Fraser jumped out to a 6-2 lead in a first set that would wind up being a battle. The Clan maintained their lead throughout most of the set and built it to five points when a kill by Young made it 17-12 for SFU.
The lead was down to three when SFU had a chance to close out the set as the Clan led 24-21.
SPU scored five of the next seven points to tie the set at 26. The teams traded points, tying the match at 27, 28 and 29 before SPU scored the final two points to take the set 31-29.
Seattle Pacific then took the next two sets, by scores of 25-18 and 25-22 to sweep the match with a three sets to none win.
With the loss, the Clan wrap up the 2012 season with a record of 4-22, 1-18 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
