Seawolves sink the Clan in straight sets

Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University volleyball team lost their last conference home game on Saturday night against the Alaska Anchorage University Seawolves in  straight sets, 25-23, 25-16 and 25-21.

“I thought we played extremely well considering that two of our starters were out with injuries and the players that stepped in played great,” said Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC). “I am very proud of out team effort tonight for leaving it all out there."

Chan finished the game with 15 digs and two aces. Jessica Young (Vancouver, BC) led the Clan with eight kills while Amanda van Duynhoven (Burnaby, BC) followed with seven.

Seawolves' Julia Mackey finished the game with 11 kills and Jodi Huddleston and Nikkie Viotto both had nine.

In the first set, the Clan carried a 4-0 run to a 17-12 lead but the Seawolves came back and won the set 25-23.

The second set was all Anchorage as they went on a 6-0 run at one point and won the set by nine, 25-16.

It was a slow start for the Clan in the third set as AAU took a 6-1 lead. Renkema led a Clan comeback with three straight blocks as SFU took a 9-8 lead. Both teams battled it out and were tied at 21, but Anchorage scored four straight points and won the last set 25-21.

With this loss, SFU's record drops to 4-18 while their conference record drops to 1-14.

The Clan will be back in action on the road against Western Washington on November 10 as they face the Vikings in Bellingham.
