Hayward, CA – On Saturday, the Simon Fraser University men's soccer team will play their first game at the National Collegiate Athletics Association division II men's soccer tournament against the Cal-State Stanislaus Warriors.
By virtue of being ranked first in the NCAA's West Region, the Clan received a bye through the first round, leaving the Clan waiting to see who would win between CSU-Stanislaus and the Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts.
On Thursday night at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward, CA, the Warriors defeated NDNU 3-2 to set up Saturday's tilt.
The Clan won their third straight conference championship in 2012 and earned the first seed in the region but because SFU was a provisional member of the NCAA for the squads first two conference titles, Saturday will be their first appearance in the National Tournament.
This is also the first appearance in the National Tournament for fourth ranked Stanislaus, who moved up to fourth position after winning the California Collegiate Athletics Association conference playoff tournament.
Offensively, Cal State Stanislaus was ranked second in goals and third in assists in the CCAA this season, with 31 goals and 27 assists in 19 games.
The Warriors also ranked first in saves with 97.
In the Great Nortwest Athletic Conference this season, the Clan ranked first in goals with 67 and assists with 52. Those numbers were enough to put the Clan first in the NCAA national statistics in goals, and second in assists.
The match gets underway at 7:00 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium, the home of Cal State East Bay Athletics, in Hayward, CA.
