Box Score Lacey, WA – The Simon Fraser University women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking, 1-0 defeat on Thursday afternoon to the Saint Martin's Saints.
“The game was played pretty evenly in the first half, we both had some quality opportunities," said head coach
Shelley Howieson. "The second half we pushed it a bit. It was going back and forth. It's a tough loss because we deserved more. We're just going to need to regroup and come back on Saturday."
The lone goal of the game was scored in the 90th minute, with just 12 seconds left to play.
It was scored by Abbey McFaul, her third goal of the season, with the assist going to Caley Wiseman. It was the third goal of the season for McFaul.
The Clan had several good scoring chances in the game but could not find the back of the net.
Amanda Gilliland (Delta, BC) started in net for SFU and made three saves in the game.
With the loss, the Clan fall to 1-3 on the season, 0-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The SFU women will continue their road trip on Saturday when they face the Western Oregon Wolves in Monmouth, OR. Game time is 11:00 a.m.
