Box Score Ellensburg, WA – The Simon Fraser University volleyball team met the Central Washington Wildcats for the first time this season on Thursday evening, dropping the match three sets to none.
“We just need to keep on fighting and working for opportunities like the one we had in the second set,” said head coach Lisa Sulatycki. “We had success when we were focused on one point at a time and we need to do that more consistently.”
Madeline Hait (Burnaby, BC) had six kills for the Clan and led the team with nine points while
Danielle Curtis (North Vancouver, BC) led the team with seven kills.
Curtis also had 10 digs in the match, trailing only team leader
Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC) who had 11.
In the first set the Wildcats jumped out to a 6-2 lead before the Clan went on a 4-0 run to tie it at six. CWU then scored 12 of the next 16 points to open up a 18-10 lead in the set, eventually taking the opening set 25-18.
The second set was close throughout, and when trailing 18-13, SFU went on a 7-2 run to tie the score at 20, before taking the lead 24-23, giving the Clan a shot at winning the set and tying the match at one set a piece.
It was not to be though as CWU took the next three points to take a 26-24 second set victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Clan could not recover in the third set, falling 25-15 to drop the match in straight sets.
With the loss, SFU falls to 2-7 on the season and 0-3 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
