Springfield, IL – The Simon Fraser University women's wrestling team defeated three schools, including a 27-13 win over the Oklahoma City University Stars in the final, to take the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association National Duals Championship.

The Clan also defeated the University of the Cumberlands and King College in the eight team tournament en route to victory.

“It is a great win for us,” said head coach Mike Jones. “The girls wrestled really well today and we are just happy to come out on top.  This is definitely one of our best performances.”

In the final, Oklahoma City's Emily Webster took the 101-pound match over the Clan's Darby Huckle (Sarnia, ON) to open things up.

Simon Fraser then took control of the match, winning the next four match ups.

Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach, CA) started it off at 109-pounds with a victory over Brianna Rahall by technical fall.

At 116-pounds, the Clan's Nikki Brar (Abbotsford, BC) defeated OCU's Kristi Garr by decision and then at 123-pounds, Laura Wilson (Courtney, BC) beat Joey Miller by decision.

Helen Maroulis (Rockville, MD) continued the Clan's success at 130-pounds with a win by pin against OCU's Brieana Delgado.

After dropping the next two matches, Danielle Lappage (Olds, AB) won by forfeit before Justina DiStasio (Port Moody, BC) and Jenna McLatchy (Chilliwack, BC) sealed the Championship for the Clan with wins over Brittany Roberts and Heather O'Connor at 170 and 191-pounds respectively.

Maroulis was named the outstanding female wrestler of the event, with decisive wins in all three of her matches.

Anthony, Brarr, Lappage, DiStasio and McLatchey also won all three of their matches while Morrison, Wilson and Huckle each recorded two wins.

With the team championship all wrapped up, the Clan women will be back in action seeking individual titles on January 25 at the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association Championship in Bristol, TN.
