Box Score Lacey, WA – The Simon Fraser University men's basketball suffered another close conference loss, dropping their game against the Saint Martin's University Saints, 78 to 65.
Matt Raivio (Vancouver, WA) and Anto Olah (Gold Coast, Austrailia) contributed 14 points apiece for the Clan men, and Olah would add nine rebounds to their campaign, but it was Saints Eric Taylor and Rei Jensen who would post game high amounts of 18 points.
Clan guard
Elijah Matthews (Washington, DC) would also post his highest numbers in several games with 12 points and last game's leading Clan scorer
Taylor Dunn (Vancouver, WA) added seven of his own.
“We came out a bit flat in the first half and didn't match their energy,” said assistant coach Chris Cline. “We played much better in the second but by then we were too far away for a come-back.”
The game started slow for both teams with the score sitting only at 5-5 after five minutes of play, but the Saints would take off soon after taking the lead at 15-5 minutes later.
Then with six minutes left in the first half the Clan would start to comeback thanks to momentum from Matthews.
They would bring the score within seven after trailing 27-12 as the half would end 37-25 in the Saints' favour.
The second half would bring better play from the Clan side, but the gap was too far for them to close in much more.
With the loss, the Clan men drop to 0-6 in GNAC play, and 5-9 in regular season play.
The men are back in action Saturday,
January 19 as they continue their road trip, taking on the Western Oregon Wolves at 7:30 p.m.
