Billings, MT – The Simon Fraser University men's basketball team opened the second half of the 2012-13 season on Thursday night with a loss to the Montana State University Billings Yellowjackets, 92-74.
Three members of the Clan reached double digits with
Taylor Dunn (Vancouver, WA) leading the charge with 21 points.
Elijah Matthews (Washington, DC) added 19 and Anto Olah (Gold Coast, Austrailia) chipped in 16.
Matthews was a perfect four for four from the free throw line and
Matt Staudacher (Kirkland, WA) led the team in assists with four.
Dunn, Olah and
Ibrahim Appiah (Montreal, QC) led the team in rebounds with seven each.
Jarrell Crayton led the Yellowjackets with 16 points and Crayton tied Robby Trabbing for the team lead in rebounds with eight.
Five Montana State Billings players reached double figures in scoring.
The Clan jumped out to an early 6-0 lead thanks to three pointers from Dunn and Matthews.
MSUB answered back with the next six points to tie the game, the first of four times the score would be tied in the first half.
The lead changed six times in the first half as the two teams were evenly matched in the opening minutes. MSUB scored the last four points of the half to send the Clan to the locker room trailing 37-31.
The Yellowjackets pulled away in the second half as they shot 58 percent from the field.
With 14:11 to play, a layup by Trabbing gave MSUB a 10 point lead while the Yellowjackets scored five of the final six points in the match to secure the 18 point victory.
With the loss, the Clan's record drops to 5-5 on the season, 0-2 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The Clan will be back in action on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. when they visit the seventh ranked Seattle Pacific Falcons in Seattle, WA.
