Box Score Lacey, WA - The Simon Fraser University volleyball team could not clinch their second consecutive victory on Saturday night, losing to the Saint Martin's Saints in straight sets.
Kelsey Robinson (Surrey, BC) was the only Clan player to reach double figures in kills, finishing with 10.
Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC) and
Alison McKay (Port Moody, BC) both reached double digits in digs with 13 and 12 respectively.
Brooklyn Gould-Bradbury (Seattle, WA) led the team in assists with 17.
"SMU competed very well tonight," said Head Coach
Gina Schmidt. "We weren't able to match their intensity."
Despite going down 3-0 to start the set the Clan hung around in the opener. With the score at 11-8, the Clan went on a 5-1 run to take the lead at 13-12. The teams battled back and forth, trading points until with the score at 20-20, the SMU went on a 5-2 run to close out the set.
In the second set, the Saints jumped out to a modest 5-2 lead in the early going and the Clan could not close the gap. SMU earned their largest lead of the set, seven, three times, at 22-15, 24-17 and the eventual final score of 25-18.
The Clan could not mount a comeback in the third set, as Saint Martin's jumped out in front early on and held the lead through the end of the set to take the set by 12, and the match three sets to none.
With the loss, the Clan's record drops to 7-5 on the season, 2-4 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
SFU will return home next week to host the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves in the West Gym on Thursday night and the Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks on Saturday. For more information, visit athletics.sfu.ca.
