Clan beat Nanooks in straight sets

Box Score Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University volleyball team got back in the win column on Saturday night in the West Gym, sweeping the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks in straight sets.

The Clan took the opening set 31-29, the second set 25-20 and the third and final set 25-18.

Kelsey Robinson (Delta, BC) led the Clan with 16 kills in the game.

"Once we won the battle in the first set the momentum was on our side," said Robinson. "We've just been working really hard on our defence and blocking all week and I think it paid off in this game."

Tamara Nipp (Vancouver, BC) and Brooklyn Gould-Bradbury (Seattle, WA) each hit double digits in assists as Nipp led the Clan with 31 assists and Gould-Bradbury had 12.

Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC) led the team in digs with 10 while Gould-Bradbury had nine.

The first set was a battle to the end, as the score was tied 16 times. The largest lead of the set was three, and the Clan came back from being down 24-22 to win the set 31-29.

In the second set, the Clan jumped out to an 8-3 lead and eventually built their advantage up to 11, leading 20-9. The Nanooks got back into the set but the Clan were able to get the set victory, taking the second 25-20.

In the third the Clan never trailed, leading by 11 at one point with the score at 17-6 and eventually taking the set, and the match, 25-18.

With the win SFU improves to 8-6 on the season and 3-5 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

SFU will stay home this week to host the Montana State University Billings Yellowjackets on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and the Seattle Pacific Falcons on Saturday at the same time.
