Box Score Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University volleyball team won their second game in a row on Thursday night, this time against the Montana State University Billings Yellowjackets in five sets, winning by scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 21-25 and 16-14.
Tamara Nipp (Vancouver, BC) and Brooklyn Gould-Bradbury (Seattle, WA) led the Clan in assists, helping out with 30 and 25 respectively.
Kelsey Robinson (Surrey, BC) led the teams with 24 kills and
Amanda Renkema (Delta, BC) followed with 13.
Three Clan players reached double digits in digs with
Alanna Chan (Port Moody, BC) leading the way with 25, followed by Robinson with 18 and
Alison McKay (Port Moody, BC) with 13.
"We knew we had to keep our heads in the game and to focus on the next play," said Renkema. " We just needed to get the job done. We wanted to win really bad and everyone knew what they had to do and we really came together to get the victory"
The Clan came out strong and took the first set 25-20, but the Yellowjackets kept fighting and won the second set 25-21.
In the third set, the Clan showed some resilience, trailing for the first 12 points but coming back to take the set by a score of 25-22.
Again, MSUB stayed in the game and won the fourth set 25-21 to even the score at two sets apiece.
In the last set, both teams battled it out, but the Clan came on top after scoring four straight points after being down 14-12, winning the set 16-14 and the match three sets to two.
With the win, SFU improves to 9-6 on the season and 4-5 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
SFU will be back in action against the Seattle Pacific Falcons on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the West Gym.
